I am just getting started on the dash, and will soon be needing to complete the wiring. I have the vintage gauges with the Ron Francis harness. I am a bit baffled by some of the wiring on the gauges. Some I think I have figured out, but some I am not clear. On most of the gauges are three groups of wires:
1) one has red/black/white together. I am pretty sure the red is for the gauge feed, the white for the gauge light feed and the black is gauge ground. The feed will go to one gauge and then I will daisy chain one gauge to the next as per the harness directions.
2) the yellow/striped wires are the signal wires for the gauge, which will plug into the similar colored loose wire and plug that came with the gauges and then to the appropriate feed from the sender (ie volts, tach, temp, etc)
3) There is a paired set of black wires with a plug end. What are these for since the red/black/white wires cover the gauge feed and ground? Should there be another 12V feed to these, or are they also for ground???
4) The dash harness from Francis has two gauge feeds -one was used for the cooling fan tied to a thermostat as per the instructions - so the remaining one will tie into the red for one gauge and then daisy chain to the rest as mentioned above. There are three ground and three dash/gauge light wires - these are daisy chained together to different clusters in the harness. Is there a reason for so many of these? How should I approach this? Should one set be used for the small gauges and then daisy chained and the other two be dedicated to the larger gauges (speedo and tach)? Or ???
As always your thoughts or experience are appreciated.
