Wow!!! I didn't think there were even that many in flying condition worldwide! Way cool and the sound of freedom from the greatest generation this world has ever known.

used to restore wwII warbirds. the guy i used to work for had one. the average was only 7 missions for these planes. every year in douglas, ga. there is a gathering of wwII pilots that trained in stearmans at that airbase. i talked to a tailgunner that flew over 100 MISSIONS in a B-17 named the "reluctant dragon". when asked how many confirmed kills he had, he would say "one probable". he said there were so many planes/ammo flying in one of those air fights, you couldn't easily tell if you or someone else had shot them. EVERY TIME HE LEFT THE GROUND HE THOUGHT IT WAS THE LAST TIME HE WOULD.

The Doolittle Raiders all knew it was a one-way flight when they took off. They all went anyway!

Pete,

Thanks for sharing. Nothing like the sound of the radial recips.! I, also, had no idea that there were that many B-25's still flying. What a wonderful tribute!

USAF vet ... 1971-1977, flew the KC-135 out of Altus AFB, OK.
