For a very good completion package, very good vendor, try Breeze Automotive.

Find the EZE pack for your needs and add it to the cost of the base kit.

There are endless upgrades you can do afterwards, but Breeze will get you to the finish line with a set of quality parts.

I built my MK II and put it on the road in 07.I started with a basic kit and started with a donor build.I used only a few donor parts. Most donor parts were used as core exchange.I sold a lot of the parts from my 92 stang donor. So I ended up with very little in the donor parts.I did quit a few upgrades , and every winter I add somthing new to the upgrade list.As of right now I have between 28K and 30K in it.It is a much nicer car now than when I first put it on the road. When I built it I put the upgrades in it that would avoid later removal of the engine , trans and body.Like rebuilding short block, installing aftermarket cam.At a later date I upgraded the heads and intake.Roger

RIGHT DONOR FOR AROUND $2000 , do your own paint, stick with teh program and it can be done for around $20,000.00

I got a donor for 2.5K and a basic kit with some specials that were being offered. I went a little overboard witha 2.4K short block and some goodies along the way but I will still be below 25K. Doing my own paint and bodywork. WEK.

How easy would it be to do your own paint?!

I have about $28k in mine now, and have just about everything for completion. I used a '94 GT.

Started with base kit plus some options, wound up at 15,800. $2500 donor. Found a short block 306, purchaser had paid half and abandoned at builder, so I got it for $1200, half price, with balanced crank, forged pistons and connecting rods. Builder sent cam, heads, ARP fasteners, roller cam and rockers, intake and everything to complete the long block (my nephew uses him to build his racing short blocks, and says he is the best). Total, with shipping, $4000 (shop says this package will put out 370 to 400 hp at flywheel). I expected to spend $6k on the 5.0, so I made out good. My nephew is assembling the engine. He lives 480 miles away.

Using differential, 5 speed, brakes, gas tank, ebrake, and other assorted parts from donor. My nephew found a Fox axle housing, instead of having donor rear end cut down 1 3/4".

Bought brake booster, radiator kit, and other parts from Breeze. Rebuilt pedal box from Fox body, plus other aftermarket new parts. Breeze is a great source. Also decided to buy 4 link from F5.

You can do it for $20k or so. Advice - get a good Fox (87-93) for donor and use as much as you can, or better yet get the complete kit. By the way, my nephew is a drag racer (has an 8 second 190 mph 91 GT which is street legal) and he is putting my motor together (I haven't done a complete engine build since my racing days in the late '70s). He also owns a powder coating business, which is real nice as I get a lot of free coated parts.

I should be able to sell some parts from the donor, expect about $600. Also expect about $3600 for painting and bodywork.

Good luck and enjoy building your car. I am really enjoying the build, and expect about a year to complete. I haven't asked for advice in the forums, but have found answers to my questions here. The guys who post here are great sources of information and really provide good information. Also, I did a lot of research before buying a kit. F5 does make the best kits, and the quality of my kit was great. No complaints

My kit cost (including shipping & options) $14,500. Donor: $80.00 (yes eighty dollars.) Engine: $4500 (sold donor engine for $500.) Wheels/tires: $800, paint/body $1800. That's roughly $21,180. I've got probably another $2,000-$3,000 in miscellaneous parts, extras etc. which brings our total to approximately $24,200.

We did not keep track of the costs. One builder told me to estimate my total budget for the build, double it, look at it then crumble it and toss it in the trash.

One more note. The car is very light. Too much horsepower and you'll just burn up tires and do donuts. A friend has a F5 cobra with a 351 running about 350 hp, and it has about as much as he can handle. If you want to road race, go with as much as you can. But for most of us who just want to cruise and hang out, we don't need that much.

Yea I definitly do not want too much power as I just want to cruise and hangout. I am looking at a 302/350hp engine and tranny package from fordcobraengines.com is about 12k, is that too much?

$12K  Mike Forte (http://www.fortesparts.com/) could probably hook you up with a 500hp 427 stroker for that much.

So many variables to factor in. When looking at, "Total Cost" I am tracking all the tools, supplies and parts I have had to purchase... Some would even figure in time. Some guys can build one for around $25,000, while others are well over $75,000. One thing for sure, it is way too easy to go over buget if you visit the forums much.

I think 500hp might be a little much but I would like to have a engine/trans package 400 for around 10k
