We're working on sealing up the tunnel on our car and I started to wonder, "where is the intake for the evaporator"? I suspect one would want the intake air for the A/C to come from inside the cabin?
It's been a couple years since I installed the A/C suitcase and I don't remember where the intake is. Is there anyone out there who has their vintage air suitcase still out of the car who could shoot me a couple Picts. Or even in the car with all the sheet metal still off?

Also any advise on how to make sure the A/C compressor has oil in it or where to check it on a stock 2004 ZO6 compressor would be much appreciated.

And lastly, anything I should know before vacuuming down the system and charging?

Thanks
Steve

Air comes in through the blower motor so it depends if you mounted it inside or outside the car.
I believe the oil is added while charging. There is no oil level to check.

If you are using a donor A/C compressor it should have oil in it. If it is new make sure it has oil in it. Most GM compressors are shipped without oil. If yours is dry and you add the oil with the refrigerant you will more than likely ruin the compressor or significantly shorten its life. There is a fill/drain bolt on the side of the compressor. Add the correct amount of PAG150 oil to it.

905090519049Just when I thought I had the A/C ready to go to the shop to be charged, the orifice tube broke off in my hand when I was trying to replace the accumulator. Looks like I'll be draining the water and pulling all the sheet metal so I can pull the A/C suit case out and send it in for repair. I put this in 3 years ago and from what I can remember is was no fun then when there was no electrical installed. Can't wait to get started on this project

I guess it's better now than after the body and interior are installed. I tried to use two o rings to keep the nuts from bottoming on each other. apparently I over tightened them or the joint fatigued from the pressure the ABS cover put on the lines. Who knows but it couldn't be in a worst spot. :(

Is this the area everyone talks about the o ring being too small?
