View Full Version : Stupid question about upper control arm

Hey guys,

Just starting the build and I feel like I'm getting tripped by the most stupid things... Could you please check that these are the correct bolts to use to attach the upper control arm to the chassis. The pictures in the manual are confusing and don't match the text, the pics make it look like all the bolts are supposed to be the same. The pics on mk4build.com don't help much either and it also looks like the bolts are all the same. Based on the manual and what I received, I am pretty sure these are the bolts I'm supposed to use, and they're pretty different from each other (other than being the same length).

The black ones with the flanged bolt are to be used in the front hole.
The silver ones without the flange are to be used in the rear.

Is this correct?

I used the black ones. Here's a pic.

Yes, but I only have 2 of the black ones :(

Best I can tell I have to use a black one and a silver one on each side.

I think we have it figured out on the other forum.. With the SAI set up, there isn't room for a flanged nut on the back of that REAR mounting location, thus different hardware for the rear mount location.

Alright then! ust thought it was weird that not only was it a different nut, it was also a different bolt, with a different TPI and wanted to make sure I wasn't already screwing something up...

Thanks everyone!

GloP,
I just did my Mark IV front suspension. There should be 4 black bolts and 4 gold colored bolts. I used the black bolts front and rear of the UCA Bracket. The black rear bolts fit even with the nut flange. If I remember I used an open end wrench on the back of the rear bolt and a socket on front. The gold colored bolts I used for the steering arm. I agree the pictures in the manual don't match the bolts supplied. Probably due to changing suppliers.

Also, I used the vertical mounts on my Roadster, following the instructions. After mounting the spindles and tires, adjusting for camber and caster had the adjustments at their limits and still not enough caster or toe in. I switched to the horizontal mounts and now have plenty of adjustment in for positive or negative. I also had 4 black nuts and bolts that I used.

SStrong,
Not to hijack Glop's thread but if you had to move the UCA mounting point to get more caster adjustment you may need longer front UCA. Check out this tread post #7.
