I got a used aluminum driveshaft for a Mustang along with a TKO I bought.

I am always in search of weight savings, but I am wondering about cutting down an aluminum driveshaft vs steel, as well as recouping $.

I don't know how much weight savings I'll have on such a short driveshaft?

So.. Any idea of weight savings?

Any comments on the process with Aluminum vs. Steel?

Thanks!

I've used steel, aluminum, and carbon fiber drive shafts. I've experienced problems with all of them except the steel ones. It is a rule of mine to never again use anything but steel for a driveshaft. YMMV.

I had an aluminum driveshaft on one of my fox mustangs. I weighed the difference between a stock steel driveshaft and an aluminum one. The aluminum driveshaft was only 3 lbs lighter and ALOT more expensive! The mustang drive shaft is also alot longer than a driveshaft on a FFR. The weight saving on a tiny roadster diveshaft will be tiny.

My advice= stay with the steel one!
