What are you guys using to dress up the oval hole ? I have used Mikes bezel in the past, but loking for something on the frugal side!

It was frugal, but coincidental. My Autometer temp gauge went bad so when I replaced it I cut the bezel from the old gauge and used it on the steering column hole. It covered the hole and matched the gauges perfectly.

Hard to tell without the steering wheel in the picture but mine is a blank dash that I cut the hole in. The hole was cut just a bit bigger than the steering shaft and the leather was wrapped in and around. Steering wheel mount covers the hole.

With a little bit of sanding and tapping a piece from a 1 1/4" chrome plumbing tailpiece will fit snugly right into the back of the steering wheel hub. With a hole a bit smaller in the vinyl it fits right in nice and smooth and looks good too.

I used a steering shaft bezel from Finish Line and, while I was at it, I ordered some for the base of the windshield supports, the seatbelt penetrations at the rear bulkhead, and the rollbar penetrations.

I painted a properly sized washer. Then glued it in place .
Cheap and easy.

...looking for something on the frugal side!

Is 2 bucks frugal enough?

Pick up a 1 1/4" pipe escutcheon plate from the plumbing section at the hardware store. The I.D. is ~1.6"; steering boss O.D. is 1.5". JB Weld a couple of 10-24 bolts on the backside, drill corresponding holes in the dash (I slotted them a little to allow some wiggle room for adjustment), snug it up with washers & nuts and you're done!

I made mine from 1/8" aluminum stock and my drill press.
