Hi guys,

I am getting close to ordering a MkIV roadster base kit and am looking for some help/advise with choosing options. first of all, I'm in Canada so i'm limited as to what i can order. basically, I have a 1997 mustang GT that i was going to use as a donor, but then i acquired a 1996 cobra 4.6 DOHC engine, engine harness and ECM, front brakes/suspension and complete rear end. So I am now thinking that by getting a few more parts such as the whitby wilwood pedal box/brake booster, another T45 tranny and a few other bits, i can build the car without having to use the 97 donor, meaning i can sell it and get some cash back for the paint job etc. My first question is the chassis harness available as an option. what does it come with and what else would i need wiring wise to complete? also, is there a major difference between the vinyl and leather seats and would anybody recommend either way? I want to try and keep it looking as period correct as possible (i realize a fuel injected dohc 4.6 contradicts this some what) so i am going to order the smiths gauges, the wind wings and the chrome side pipes. I would like the IRS but i think that is too much cash for now, and may upgrade in the future. if anybody here is from canada and has installed the 3 link, what other parts do i need if i select the 3 link option?

any other advise of what or what not to order would be greatly appreciated.

thanks guys!!!

If you are thinking of upgrading to IRS later, do yourself a favor and buy it now. It's probably one of the hardest upgrades on a finished car. The 3 link is a bolt in option. All you will need is a 8.8 rear end. You might want to consider FFRs new gauges over the Smiths units break good quality and period correct looking. You can buy a harness from FFR that will handle everything that the engine harness won't. Simple install. Hard to tell the difference between the leather and vanilla seats. Consider buying a stock mustang pedal box instead of the Wilwood setup. Cheaper in the end and works perfect with power or non power brakes. Non power requires a pedal modification which is no big deal.

You have a solid plan, the IRS is over rated youllmbe happy with the 4 link and the three link as well. Now ...... Pick up
The phone and call FFR!!!!

The upgraded sidepipes, stainless, are a good thing to consider now. You get them cheaper when you buy the kit vs later. IRS vs 3 link is always a big decision. After talking to FFR and doing a lot of reading I went 3 link. It is interesting that the manual refers to the 3 link as the performance suspension and the IRS as the comfort suspension. This is also what I got from talking to FFR. Many people will have a different opinion on tht one. But, when FFR recently sent a car to battle with an original Cobra on Speedvisions Muscle Car, they sent a 3 link to do the job. If I want comfort, I'll drive my Infiniti.

I have the vinyl seats and if you saw them and I told you that they were leather, you would probably believe me. I figured that they are going to be in the Florida sun and vinyl would hold up better. Plus, they will get stepped on, the doors aren't exactly big.

Have a good look through the options list on the order form, and don't be afraid to call FFR and talk to them. Good luck.
