Some of you may have followed my saga related to installing wrap on my FFR 4-into-4 headers. After a bunch of soul-searching and further research, I decided to remove the wrap and have the headers (and sidepipes) coated in black ceramic.

Although there was really no consensus among people here and the others I spoke with, the wrap does likely cause some durability issues and I just didn't want to worry about where I'd be when a pipe or weld was compromised. The ceramic coating will provide a much more durable finish for the sidepipes, too.

This was really an aesthetic issue, as I was planning on painting my sidepipes BBQ black and didn't want the factory silver coating on the headers showing under the hood. In the end, I'm very happy with the results and decision to go this route. Total for both headers and sidepipes was a reasonable $430 from a local place in the Chicago southwest suburbs.

For ceramic, I use Lo-Ko on 111th at Central. They did silver ceramic on the full exhaust of a '65 Mustang I built a few years back and both that job and this one came out great.

For powder, I go out west to House of Powder in Standard, just a little ways past Starved Rock on Rt. 71.
