I'm looking into purchasing a GTM Kit, however the thought of making a 'GREEN' type of 'Supercar'
came up.
Is it possible to install a Turbo Diesel Crate Engine from VolksWagen?
I can have the transmission worked to accomodate this motor,
however, I'm wondering if Factory Five can give me some feedback, or even
a member oft his forum, supply some impute.

Please review and advise.

I have considered it, but it would probably be next to impossible to fit into the GTM without major modifications. That wasn't really and issue for me, and depending upon what the size of your engine is, might not be for you either. The only way to really know is to give it a go. I can tell you that the V8 based diesels will not, by any means, except major modifications, fit.

Hasn't it been done before?

A group of high school students, using a kit car body designed for high performance, managed to win the Green Grand Prix rally back in April by getting 160 mpg using an old VW engine running on biodiesel and a home-built hybrid system.

Why?

Why?
I'd say so that he can laugh as he drives by gas stations he would have to stop at, had he installed a V8.

I owned a VW Diesel between 1985-1990, the problem was I had to plan when and where I was going to be low on fuel. Not an easy thing to do when you are out of your routine and in a strange part of town. Back then maybe only 20% of the stations carried Diesel, and costs were so much more, that I most likely just broke even.

Why?

In my case, three little words..."torque" and "fuel milage". :)

If you want to see why come to watkins Glen this month when the turbo diesel GTM competes in the Green Grandprix again.
they won this event last year averaging well over 100mpg.
and the engine trans combo fits perfectly like they were made for each other.

Mark,
What information do you have, or can you direct me to, with regards too the event att The Glen.
Also, with regards to The GTM that has been produced with a Turbo Diesel, where can I find data
pertenant to its manufacture, its engine capability, and cost realtive to that of utilizing a V8.
I'm going to be a stickler with this project and try to maintain my original plan of aquirering a
motor from VW.
Please review and advise accordingly.
Best day,

Paul R
