So what's your guess?

Mine is May 2013, can't wait!

FFR's stated goal is Fall of 2012. I think they will make it. So I'll say October 2012.

I want to know how many people plan on buying a kit as soon as they are ready?

I am seriously considering it! I am also looking at the RCR Razor... I really like the ability to use a 4g63... plus it is already shipping... but I am sure the 818 will be a better package with more support. so not sure if I should wait it out ...

I'm ready for a new project now. The shop is almost done and is sitting empty waiting. I will be surprised if FFR ships any production kits this year, Betas maybe but my money is on early 2013 for production kits.

November of 2012 is very optimistic so I think somewhere between then and May/June of 2013 is more likely. If it launched as early as 2012, I wouldn't be ready. I have to convert a storage building (12x20) to a dedicated "cobra" garage before I can even have the space to store and build a new project. My wife is very reasonable but the 2012 Camero is not giving up it's 1 and a half spaces in the garage for a roadster and an 818. I think FFR wants to get this right so slipping a little on the projected launch date is a real possibility. I'm wondering if FFR will take any orders "early" so the first production run flies out the door or will they not take any until there is real inventory on the floor. WEK.

Dave has stated several times he expects to be shipping kits by SEMA 2012, which is this October. They've stated the body is nearly ready, so beta kits/builds should happen in the very near future.

Careful what you wish for, Bugeye! I still have to figure out how to formulate arguments and defend questions like: Why do you need another race car or when will you be selling the roadster? It's not a done deal!!! But I can dream, right? Maybe I can come up with something close to the launch date. WEK.

Dave has sttated that they will not take any orders early. He has made this point several times. I actually think they will have a full working model by sema, but I do there there will need to be some work expanding their production capcacity. It is already like a 6-8 week long wait for a GTM. 818 will start out as a similiar niche, but does have potential to be more popular given its lower cost. I think in the beginning, only a select few will get the kits while the rest of us get waitlisted or something. Tough that is pure speculation (they could have 500 ready to go for all I know).

I don't care much for the kits actual release don't. Don't have the money for one right now, but saving!

Me too. Finishing the roadster and preparing a place for it outside of the existing garage will keep me totally occupied. But I think you are right. Even if we have the money, it won't be a guarantee that we will get one. I see myself on the waiting list behind the "beta builders". I don't blame FFR for wanting to really showcase this launching. It's a little like the original CS Cobra project. Until they got enough cars out of production to show off, they were actually repainting some of them and taking pics to make it look like there were more of them than there really were. I don't think FFR will do that but they do want to have some finished ones out there to show off. It seems like a long wait but it will be here before you know it. WEK.

looking for a donor
I do have plenty of ongoing projects and a house so timing isn't critical
When they are available I'll be ready

I disagree. Part of the $10K kit price is likely to be heavy leveraging of "economies of scale". So, while there will be a beta program and a controlled production scale up, it will all happen on an very advanced timeline compared to any other FFR release.

I'm probably being a little pessimistic but I think I may be pretty close to the correct time line. As far as "economies of scale", FFR may benefit from some leverage with vendors but I can't see how they will benefit overall with that concept. Many economists believe that improving work flow and coordinating work with customer "needs" and reduction of waste play a much more critical role in this sort of venture especially when it is ramping up like this one is (LEAN concepts). I hope FFR has a well planned strategy (I trust them to have one). If they can get the 818 project kits out the door the way they do the roadsters, that will be a very good start for them. And maybe we can get our kit sooner than later. Thanks, WEK.
