Finally, its going to happen: ordered my Challenge Car a few weeks ago, with a completion date of 4/14/12! Absolutely can't wait. I've been researching FFR since 2008, so its been awhile, but I'm looking forward to the whole build/test/tune process. Did the FFR Build School at Mott this last February and that sealed the deal.
Never built a car before, so thanks in ADVANCE to everyone here on the forum and at FFR for all the questions that I will be asking soon.
My plan is to not follow the FFRCC spec race series, but will build it all out for SCCA GT-1, NASA TT Big Bore, Pro-Auto, Vintage classes, and/or any other classes I can find. Not sure how I'll fair, but for me its all about the process and knowing every single bolt of my car and having loads of FUN! Been doing lots of track work since 1999 (BMWCCA, DE, HPDE, etc) and want to get more serious now. Have always been in the BMW family for track work (3-series & MINI) but want something more powerful and traditional (and noisy!) and want to spend money only on parts that are speed-significant, and not throwing money away on cars that you have to strip down to make fast. Spent lots of time learning how to go fast with low HP (momentum driving), but now I want to take it up a notch and reduce the times I have to see that Blue/Yellow stripe flag! ;) I did the GP4 course at Bondurant this last December (2 of those days in the rain), and that planted the racing bug using those Vettes and Formula Mazda cars. Nothing can explain open-wheel driving, so I think the Challenge Car set-up will be smokin' for me! Not doing anything "period-correct", not street legal, and will be a flat-out racing machine that's driven hard.
Anyway, that's my skinny and I'll kill the throttle on this one for now. Thanks for listening and great to meet you guys!
