I need a second line in my house for work and I was thinking of going with Vonage mainly because of price. I need to keep my regular phone line and was wondering how difficult it would be, or if it is possible to get a 2 line phone and use the land line for one and Vonage for the second. Any advice?
Thanks.
....I've used Ooma for two years now ...my buddy who has been with Vonage just switched to Ooma as well. No complaints at all - once you own the hardware (approx. $200) it is basically free calling anytime anywhere in US.... world calls are real cheap...your computer does not have to be running, your home phone system will behave exactly as it does now(call comes in ....answer it anywhere in the house) ..... you can have two lines.... switch existing phone number to ooma and say good bye to land line service fees. btw - the ooma web based call management software is supurb....call statistics, block callers....etc.

I have had Vonage for 6 years and it has been trouble free as long as your internet carrier provides good service. They do offer second lines for sure and the bennies are great. You get more than you need and a great price. It has never gone down although my internet has ,then we go to cell ,but very rare.I use probably half of the Giggities they give you.If my wife is blabbering then the call goes to my cell, they have messaging and too much to use really-all inclusive
I would say ,since my wife calls Asia ,we have saved thousands and I call HK and back east it has been great. All the options your phone co. offer$ ,Vonage gives you. They send you a modem and you are done.I have it hooked up to a master answer machine only ,then 7 other satellites throughout the house.
Two thumbs up! and anything else I can get up!
This is ONE company I have been happy with
I also pay for it "one time payment" it's 228 per year ,then add calif tax and calif fees and calif surcharge and calif this and that and I think it's only $45,000.00

x3 on the Ooma. Another option is a free number from Google Voice. Anyone that calls the number is automatically forwarded to a phone number of your choice, ie your landline or cell number. Also they have a cool feature - any voice m message are transcribed and forwarded to your email address. You can also use it to make cheap calls out - you log into their web site, type in the number you want to call, type in your number and it will connect you

I'm using Vonage for almost 7 years and as The Italian said. it is trouble free, but need a good Internet provider. The have good/cheap plan to call international and tons of features.

I did some comparing the two plans.
If you call overseas a lot or specific countries that are "PAY" on Vonage.
Vonage is much cheaper, however OOMA ,if not using overseas ,will be cheaper after the first year 1/2 and Ooma's price per minute are much higher.Ooma has the basic free features as Vonage ,but for a geek ,not enough.
If you stay within the USA OOMA is a winner-I don't have Ooma so I cannot speak for the quality,Vonage is great. Taxes still plague any phone plan so there will always be charges, personally I think the "tax" on internet calling is just $tealing ,just like all my bills have become...My water bill. Sewer base fee...........$19.62
Sewer commodity........$8.64
Storm drain................$2.96
Clean Ocean Fee.........$5.02
Water base fee..........$10.92
Then just add water $20 of water.
