I'm trying to install a Ford crate Z363 (Boss 302 block) into #333. I ordered the engine with a rear sump oil pan on the advice of others but the front of the factory oil pan still hits the tubular frame cross members that run diagonally in front of the engine. Not by much but they still hit. FF techs say replace the oil pan; I would be glad to do so but Ford says they don't make one and the configuration of the one that came with the engine is necessary for oil pump clearance. Jegs lists a Milodon but it's only .45" shallower and that's not enough. Has anybody had this problem and figured it out?

Thanks
Jimmy

I don't have a Boss block but rather a '72 302. I used a Champ Pan and had no clearance issues. The rear sump is also only 7" deep so it does not hang below the frame.

I installed a Ford Racing 392 stroker with a double sump and have +/- 1/8" or slightly less clearance. During the engine install, until the xmission (Tremec TKO) was set in place with appropiate spacers, I had interference. The Ford Racing oil pan maybe an option. I do not have power steering but understand this oil pan may cause problems if power steering is desired. I've got about 50 miles and believe me you may want power steering.

Oh yeah. Chuck, I'll let you drive my car when you come out for HB if you want. Then you'll know if you want to invest or not. Best investment I've made. Now I can drive around with one hand on the wheel. It's awesome.
