Just finished installing all of the cockpit aluminum panels and probably like most of you, ran and got my seats and set them in the car just to see what it would look like. I also wanted to get an idea of how the seats would fasten to the chassis. When I had originally removed the floorpans, it was great to see those steel seat pans welded to the to the chassis. However, when I put the seats in and moved them to where I thought they will permanently fastened, I saw that the front edge of the seat frame barely covered the back third of the seat pan. Note: seats have the square tube frame. It now looks like I can get two bolts through the front of the seat frame though the back edge of the pan but the rear bolts might end up going through the 2"x2" square tube (where the lower control arms connect). The text in the MkIV manual leads one to think that the seat mounts to the seat pan only but just doesn’t appear to be that way.
I would appreciate any feedback or information on your seat installation.
Thanks
Ron

You may have to use the combination of the 3/4 " crosstubes and the steel panel. But then again, the seat will not be adjustable. I usually use Breezes install kit, but you can always buy a set of seat tracks from summit and bolt those to the floor, will require some shimming for the seat frame. I am doing this now
I drilled thru the 2x2 and bolted the rear of the seat to that. I needed to get longer bolts to do this.

Nuts and bolts through the plate and long self tapping screws into the 2x2. This more than sufficient to hole the seat in place, but again, they won't be adjustable. It didn't bother me since I'm 6'2" and need the seats all the way back.

I've had to bolt through the 2X2 and also tap the round tube.
A word of advice; if you are using highbacks, putting the lowbacks on sliders or raising them put the body on for a test fit before finalizing the seat location. Unless they are installed flat on the floor even the lowbacks can collide with the rear curve of the cockpit opening.

Thanks to you all for the information. Using the "stock" kit seats and not concerned with adjustability. Will fit the driver's seat in position that is comfortable for me and will bolt in place using bolts through the pan and 2"x2" tube. Not really concerned about if it fits other drivers!! Will bolt the passenger seat in the furtherest back position to give as much legroom as possible.
Thanks again!
