Should the E brake handle parts be painted? I just finished assembling my 13” rear brake brackets which were nicely powder coated. But the E brake parts are bare metal. The edges are shiny black so I thought maybe they are supposed to go together without adding a layer of paint to them.
The shiny black is mil scale. Raw metal parts should be cleaned of scale and primed and painted or powder coated to prevent rust in my opinion. It's ultimately builder's preference.

X3 to clean them up and finish. PC is OK if it's not heavy. Could affect how it fits together. I paint them.

Thanks everyone. @edwardb : I’d like to copy your e brake modification. I saw your 1 pulley solution but you mentioned 2 could be better. Do you have info on that? Then I wasn’t sure if it was in the car frame or the transmission bracket. And you used a carriage bolt? How did you get the square hole?

That mod was originally documented in my 20th Anniversary Roadster build here: https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?18591-EdwardBs-Mk4-8674-20th-Anniversary-Build&p=225428&viewfull=1#post225428. I later added the second pulley at the recommendation of another forum member which was a good improvement. There have been a number of posts about it since. Apparently the Lokar cable clevis referenced isn't readily available anymore but I don't know that personally. A Wilwood 330-11485 is very similar and some searching might find that one. Others have fabricated something similar. The pullies are attached to the car frame. Yes a carriage bolt. The square hole is the result of a smaller round hole and a file. Good luck. Hope it works out for you.
