I have been thinking about refitting the mounting points for the front end UCAs to mount like the C5 instead of how the GTM has them. I am not a suspension expert, so I am hoping one of the gurus here will provide some advice. My thinking is this will provide some more alignment capability with the use of shims - I might be completely wrong, so that's why I am asking for advice. ;)

Is there a specific advantage / reason why Factory Five chose to mount them 'horizontally', with the bolts being vertical, instead of 'vertically' with the bolts being horizontal?

As long as the axis center line is maintained, aside from making sure the mounts are strong enough, what are the concerns or potential issues with changing the orientation of the mounts?

Your bolts, if I am understanding you correctly, will go from shear to tension. This means your bolt material and installation will be more critical, but really shouldn't be a problem. Assuming your new mounts are strong and well designed, just make sure to use high quality bolts. :)
