I would like to replace my stock 35 year old EFI with an Edelbrock ProFlo 4 (35930) system and have some questions. I have a stock 1990 302 with catalytic converter, air pump and associated hardware deleted. I am tired of the stock comb over intake and would like a more traditional looking intake with air cleaner that the ProFlo offers.
I am hoping that some of the EFI gurus that have done this will chime in here and answer some questions that I have. Lots of info available for carb to EFI but I didn't see much on converting from stock to new EFI. I am aware that the 35930 is rated for up to 450 HP and thats just fine for my application.
Here are the question I have in no real order.
1. Sounds like I need to change the fuel pump to higher volume. Can this be an in tank replacement and retain my current supply and return fuel lines? Is a fuel regulator needed?
2. I now have 2 O2 sensors, new system appears to have 1. Do I use one and plug the other? Is the collector install location still OK?
3. Does the stock ignition coil need to be replaced? Recommend which one if so.
4. I have a remote mounted TFI. Is that eliminated?
5. The stock ECM (A9L) gets removed. Does this include all the ECM circuits or are there some that need to be retained to maintain all functions.
6. Will the stock throttle cable connect?
7. Which air cleaner will fit under the hood? MKII
These are the questions I have at this time.
Thanks in advance for all your help.

I haven't done what you're proposing but I do know a little about EFI systems and the ProFlo so I'll give it a shot.

1. I would go to an intank pump with an external 10 micron filter. Talk to Forte, he can fix you up. Regulator is included with the ProFlo system.

2. You only need one O2 sensor which is supplied with the ProFlo. Cap the other port.

3. Probably a good idea. I believe Edelbrock recommends one in the instructions.

4. Yes

5. Yes. You will take the engine down to a long block. The ProFlo comes with a new intake, distributor, and all required sensors.

6. Maybe

7. No idea

Thanks Mike. I was hoping you would respond. Do you know if the return line comes off the bottom of the regular?

I have a ProFlo but took the supplied regulator off (it looked kind of cheesy) and replaced it with a more robust unit with a return. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/hly-12-880 Aeromotive makes very nice regulators also like this one. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/aei-13129

I like the regulators with a return line as they maintain more consistent fuel pressure to the injectors which is very important. You can do a returnless system using a PWM controller for the pump but you'll spend some serious money do it.

Here's a link to the ProFlo installation instructions.
