Negative terminal came right off when prying the cable connector. Battery read 12V, battery tender even said it was charged to 12V and battery was OK. Fuel pump would go on with the battery alone, no headlights or starter. So it looks like 12V but not a lot of cranking Amps.

Please don't tell my 10th grade chemistry teacher I can't remember why the negative terminal is more subject to corrosion!

The were anti-corrosion pads were plenty moist.

With the new battery, the headlights are no longer dim at idle even with all accessories on. Wierd - I thought the alternator took over after starting.

Hi Eddie,
My Optima battery died after about a decade. I'd noticed on the volt meter that "key on" showed less than 12 volts, I'd also noticed the engine was not happy near idle. A quick check of the battery at the parts store said it was less than stellar, so I changed it out for a new one.

The volt meter again reads 12 v with key on and the car starts and runs better now. The battery tender also seems to complete the charge far more quickly.
My "new" battery will be starting its second season in the car this summer.

Best wishes,
Tom
