View Full Version : Why No Fuse in Solenoid Circuit?

In the standard RF harness solenoid circuit through the clutch safety switch, there isn't a fuse. The schematic shows power running directly from the ignition switch start terminal through the clutch switch and on to the starter. I've traced the wires and they do exactly that.

I'm just wrapping up wiring a neutral safety switch through a relay to the solenoid and assumed my 12V power lead should have a fuse. So why isn't that circuit fused in the RF harness?

Thanks,

Pat

I’m not overly familiar with the RF harness but I suspect if you trace the main power coming in to the ign switch back to its source you’ll find a fuse.

There is no fuse in the RF harness arrangement. The ign switch gets its power from (+) starter post which is direct to battery.

I don't think you want a fuse in that circuit for safety reasons. Blown fuse = no start and potentially at the worst time, e.g. in traffic, whatever. To the best of my knowledge, DD's don't have a fuse in that direct start circuit either. A fusible link maybe but not sure about that either. Thousands built the way it is. I'd leave it alone.

Thanks Paul. That does make sense. Won't add a fuse.
