View Full Version : Trimming Firewall forward for height? Body seems high at dash...

Hello all,

After installing the dash with the body on, I'm wondering if the body is sitting a little high at the center of the dash arc area? I've always read and assumed that the dash needed to be somewhat below the dash hoop at the center in order to be removable. I had mine set at about 1/4' below the hoop at the center. With the body sitting on the top of the firewall, the top of the dash and dash hoop are visible below the lip of the body. I can actually get a thin metal measuring stick between the hoop and the body, which seems off? I could probably trim 1/2" off of the firewall even to get it as low as I would have assumed it would be.....

Has anyone needed to trim their Firewall forward to be lower for the body to sit in the correct spot?

Also trying to decide just how much I care about it.....

Once I was sure that the body and dash were centered correctly I pushed the dash up as far as it would go, marked the lip all the way across then marked to the L brackets that I had affixed to the hoop for mounting. I also had my bulb seal on at the time as well. You shouldn't have to trim your firewall as long as it was installed at the correct height.

Don’t use the top of the hoop to dictate dash placement…their curve is inconsistent. Use the ends of the dash which should be about 3/26” + or - down from the outer ends of the hoop.
