Hello all.

I'm about ready for my WSP inspection. I have a question about wipers and bumpers.

How closely do they look at all this stuff? As I understand it, the WSP inspection is geared more towards making sure there are no stolen parts used in the build. When I ordered my kit, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do for a bumper, so I just left it as the Quick Jacks. Now I'm wondering if and what I need to add for bumpers, if anything. According to RCW's a bumper needs to be 4.5" off the ground and as wide as the tire track. Even if I had the hoop and bumperettes on, they don't fulfill this requirement I don't think. I've even toyed with the idea of just welding a bar across the Quick Jacks to meet the requirement.

I also ordered my kit with the windshield washers, but chose not to install them. If needed for inspection, I'll fab up some manual wipers to install on the top rail of the windshield.

To the guys that have been through this, what was your experience with inspection? Thanks in advance.

I did the WSP inspection last summer at the Parkland location. Kind of a joke really, the only thing they checked was the stamped serial number on the frame against my paperwork. I didn’t even have the FFR ID tag on the car yet and they didn’t ask. I have overriders front and rear and no wipers.

I pulled into the inspection bay, unloaded the car from the trailer and handed over my paperwork. He checked the frame number and spent maybe a minute looking at the car, asked a couple of basic questions and disappeared into the office. He came back twenty minutes later, said I was good to go. I know folks at other locations have had more scrutiny but nothing excessive. Hopefully they chime in.

Here was my experience up in Skagit county,

I agree, the WSP inspection is kind of a joke. I'm a big fan of getting it titled as a collector car if you can. Cheaper and no front plate.

I got collector plates, licensed as a 65 Shelby Replica, no WSP inspection and drove for about 6 months last spring. The licensing office said that was all I needed. Life was good until I received a letter from the DOL stating my registration was invalid and had not passed their audit process. Both my title and registration were cancelled. Grrr… back to the licensing office only to find out I had to start the entire registration process over. The car is now registered as a KITV with a WSP inspection record and regular plates. At least the state is happy now.

This is the kind of inspection I could live with.

Thanks Shakey, I remember reading through your process a while back. It was very helpful and got me reading a lot of the RCW's. The RCW's can be confusing and they try to cover all situations with blanket laws.

This is unfortunate. I'd like to get the vintage plates so I don't have to buy tags every year and I will NOT put a front plate on this car.
