This is being discussed a little in the 818 development thread, but I think it is worthy of a new thread for people who may not be checking that one.

The new website is up and has a lot of new information, including the first image of what I can only assume is the final body, and the first draft donor parts list.

edit... this is Jim's original 1/4 model design which is not the final design

Here is the list of parts that are being used currently on the prototype:
• Front spindles with full brakes and front lower control arms
• Rear spindles with brakes and parking brake
• Steering rack, tie rod ends, and upper steering column assembly
• Pedal box and throttle
• Master cylinder and brake booster, and clutch master cylinder
• Engine with turbo and intercooler (if WRX model)
• Transmission
• Rear lower control arms, toe links, and CV joints
• Seats and gauge pod
• Fuel pump
• Radiator
• Wheels and tires

If you have purchased a donor car and are in the process of disassembling and prepping parts, it is important to save as many parts as possible. The following list are parts that you can definitely resell or discard as they are not needed.

2002-2007 Subaru Impreza/WRX parts NOT NEEDED:
• Main body shell (BUT save all bolt-on brackets and hinges)
• All window glass
• Headlights and tail lights
• Rear differential
• Driveshaft
• Headliner and interior pillar moldings
• Carpets
• Front and rear suspension cross-members
• Front struts and springs
• Rear seat cushion and back
• Spare tire
• Fuel tank shell (but keep for fittings and internals)

*NOTE: The 818 prototype is being built and this parts list is subject to change. If it is not listed above, DO NOT DISCARD.

I don't think that's the final body. That looks like Jim's design and my understanding is that design was scrapped. Dave also posted in another thread today that it wouldn't be revealed for days or maybe weeks.

Hm yeah, after looking back at the silver model it looks like it is Jim's model, maybe with a few tweaks. Dave did say that this design was scrapped.

A few comments.

If that red thing is Jim's second or modified fish mouth design (silver model), the skin is pretty handsome in a side only view.

Ths new frame rendering give me hope that the previous shoulder-to-shoulder seating arraingement has possibly been revised.

I lost interest of this project. The competition thing was just a PR purposes. FFR lured me in to the dealer and than they offered me a different car. :(

You got offered a car? I haven't even seen a car yet.

Hey it has an uphostered interior and door panels based on the donor. I'm happy with that It means it will be easier to build off of. Though I don't think it will be complete since the car width is changed.

Now I have to wonder about the side windows. Outlook not so good for the roadster :/. Than again, I live in california so it is less of an issue.

Also no mention of the STI as a donor, but I think this has been shot down before.

Side windows were never on the table for the roadster. However, up until recently it wasn't confirmed the roadster was going to be first. It was stongly suspected however.

No STI was an early descion. Mostly because of the extra space and engineering require to accomodate two tranmissions. However there are secondary reasons - like different shifter and CV axles. Every change /option would add time and cost to the whole project.

I know, right?

I read it as door panel included in kit (new, custom), not reuse door panel from donor.

I did see STi mentioned, specifically called out as not a donor. I'm sure some will do it anyway, much like SC Cobra was used for the Roadster.

I guess I don't get it either about what you are saying. The contest was to get a bunch of ideas is the way I looked at it. We are still just waiting for a final design.

I think he's saying he expected Nuphone's design to be the chosen body since it won, and it isn't.

Frankly, I think the chassis performance is what will define the 818, not how it looks.

Sorry to say I disagree with you on this.

The way a performance car looks is VERY important. Dave Smith is very clued up on what matters with the development of kit cars and he has stated in line with what we all know... if its ugly it wont sell.

I am looking forward to the final reveal, as I know many of you are. Every tidbit of info that is "leaked" has me glued to the computer.

I didn't drink any kool-aid, but I DO think that Factory Five will produce a pretty seriously cool looking car, with awesome handling that will exceed most of our expectations.

There will be those who are disappointed, and some of them are likely to be quite vocal about it. However, my hunch is the vast majority of us will range from happy to ecstatic!!

My opinion, you may fire away with whatever insults you choose....

Regards,

Steve

Disagreements? Perhaps; but not in this case!! :D

This is awesome to see a lower height on the chassis!!! Kind of what I was suspecting to meet the HOF aspect of this car with the given dimensions, it had to get lowered.

Where does it say this? could you show us a link? do you mean lower overall height or lower chassis?

My two cents because his comments were a reaction to the mark-up I did.................that drawing is just an artist rendering.

Perhaps, just perhaps the roll bar will be lowered on the roadster because there will be no roof (or side windows) to worry about. A kit car sort of throws most safety out the window, I don't foresee many potential buyers being put off by this.

In addition, the windshield may also be lowered over the same lack of requirements (they did it once before for Jim's scale model).

Remember, all wookies will fit in a roadster, no roof, right?

Also as a consideration, the lowering of a non-standard seat for wookies could lower the roll bar and the windshield in a roadster, convertible, and coupe versions.

Keep in mind I think this artist rendering is just one of many studies, this one done for below average height guys like me. There may also be a normal or 50% American male version. And a 90% American Male or "Wookie" version with higher than normal roll over crash bar.

All just a theories, and keep in mind that I have fun with theories whereas other people only find anxiety when facing the unknown and uncertain.

Sit back, wait and enjoy the ride is my advice.
