Ok the last couple days I've managed to get all my cutouts completed including wheel wells and sanded them so there are no sharp edges. I followed some expertise advice on this fourm and it worked out great. My question is when putting on the undercoating on the underside of body how far do I stay away from wheel wells so not to interfere with painting later and how thick or heavy do I put it on or not at all? Or should I wait until I'm ready to paint and do it all at once. I was going to take it to a shop that does truck beds but they wanted $600 I don't think so. Now I'm doing it myself for about 1/6th of that.
Any advice or comments certainly welcome.

are you doing your own body/paint work?
My painter had me leave 1" around all edges/openings. I'm assuming that it's a bear to trim the edges once the liner is on.
I used a water based duplicolor liner and rolled it on. It had a very interesting texture, almost like runny cottage cheese. I put 2 coats on and an additional 2 coats in the wheel wells.
Others have used a upol product w/ good success.
Just wear clothes/shoes you don't mind throwing away as this stuff can stain pretty badly.

Yep, leave at least 1" away from the edges

As Chewy said I asked him to keep it about an inch away from the wheel openings so that it doesn't interfere when doing the trimming and shaping. After paint I then touch it up and go to the edge. When customers have me do it rather than doing it themselves I do it AFTER paint. Two reasons; first because I can then take it all the way out to the edges and secondly by doing it afterwards there is no primer and paint overspray so it's all fresh black and clean. I have used the Duplicolor Bed Armor and Herculiner in the past but now use U-Pol Raptor. It's a catalyzed product and is far and away the best product I've used. I spray it but it can also be rolled and brushed. A one gallon kit will be plenty to give two heavy coats and also includes a Schutz gun for spraying it.

Jeff

I've managed to get the wheel wells trimmed out as you described using the grinder with flap wheel It turned out great really wasn't that hard to do. Still needs a little more hand work but overall it's looking good. Thanks Jeff for the advice.

Thanks Chewy I'm still doing body prep for a few more days and waiting for good weather to apply under coating out side due to the smell.
