It's been a REAL winter up here in Maine, so no driving lately. However, we had a beautiful day yesterday and the temps hit 43 and the roads were dry (seeing over the snow banks wasn't fun). Anywho, this was the first time I've had a chance to test my car with the Mishimoto PWM fan controller installed-- and I couldn't be happier. I'm sure most here know how loud the Spal fan is that is included in the kit. It's sounds like a jet engine. Because my car as a slightly quieter exhaust, the fan was actually louder than the engine at idle, and I could even hear it between shifts. It's driven me crazy for 3 years now.
Well....I finally decided to spend the $220 on a Mishimoto PWM fan controller, and after a day of wiring, I can now hear that sweet idling sound without what used to sound like a shop vac running. On the drive, as soon as the engine hit 190 degrees, the fan started up at 10% (inaudible), after driving it as hard as I dared on cold tires and roads, I saw the temp hit 210 and the fan cycled up a bit, but still inaudible from the drivers seat. It's so nice to hear "just" engine. The fan controller is infinitely adjustable, so I'll be able to tweak it when warm weather hits to make sure it's dialed in. I know that on those hot summer days I'll likely hear it spool up. However, it's nice to know it will only run as fast as it needs to to keep the engine cool.
I just thought I'd share a win.
