View Full Version : Need some direction on mounting E-stopp actuator in a Gen 1 HR

The go-kart is done and I've decided to pull the manual e-brake handle and toss it. Too cumbersome for me or the wife for a number of reasons. Looking to those who have added the E-stopp after assembly. I'm currently have the cables running through the provided center mounts and would like to use those cables if possible and cut them if need be.. What have you all done for a mounting bracket for both the actuator and pull bracket that would be flush to the bottom frame rails? A lot going on there and not much for mounting. The cables end up in the center junction of all the rails, so cutting the cables seems required in lieu of buying shorter cables. Could use some help on this one before I drop $600 on the unit. What says the hive?

Thanks for an input.

I can't speak to this issue directly (not using an E-stop), but I had a similar issue.

Like you, I wasn't happy with the parking brake being mounted to the floor and unreachable while wearing seat belts. My solution was to follow the example of some coupe builders (edwardb and others) and moved the handle up onto the trans tunnel. This effectively made the cables longer, so I could either cut them off or move the sheath mounting bracket to the rear an appropriate amount.

I chose Plan B and adapted a steel box and angle brackets I found at Lowe's that I could cross bolt into the chassis. (I wanted to keep this part removeable in case I ever need to R/R the IRS.) (The "spacer" is out being powder coated now or I would have attached a photo.) Maybe you can do something similar and keep the stock cables?

Hey Keith,
Thanks for the input. It’s definitely an option but I’d really like to eliminate the handle all together. I’m exploring fabricating a pan to cross over the two braces to punt both the actuator and bracket. I was hoping for an easier solution that I’m overlooking.

Anytime you go "off script" on an FFR vehicle it's not going to be easy - just some mods are easier than others. This is your opportunity to get creative

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my request. I have explored that bracket but it's less functional on these frames. If we had a typical frame rail, it would work fine. I'm
going with some 4" wide aluminum bar and making my own bracket so the unit sits up in the frame, off-set from the center. It's tight but it's out of the way with no undercarriage clearance issues. I believe more functional, for this type of frame. Once powder coated, you won't even notice. Units is in and waiting on the flat bar. Thanks again, I appreciate you
taking the time to post the link.

Be sure to post some pics when complete. I would love to see your completed project. I thought of doing the same.

Will do. I did my cardboard mock up this weekend and will be on it on Wednesday.
