View Full Version : Mark 4 Mustang Pedal Box and Power Brakes Throttle Cable Question

I'm nearing the end of my build but have run into a snag with throttle actuation.

Here's my situation: I'm using a Mustang pedal box so I can have vacuum-assisted power brakes. I initially installed Mike Forte's mechanical throttle linkage; however, that's not going to work long-term. The clutch pedal cross-shaft in the pedal box prevents a nice straight shot from the throttle pedal to the mechanical linkage lever in the footbox. The geometry is wonky, putting too much stress on the throttle pedal.

So, for anyone running a similar setup: I presume you used a cable-actuated throttle? If so, did you use the kit-supplied Factory Five throttle pedal or a Breeze (Mark Reynolds) pedal? Lastly, any clearance issue between the cable where it exits the footbox and the vacuum booster?

Thanks.

Can't help with your specific questions but can advise you use a Lokar cable. They are by far the best.

Don't know why you are having issues? I had no clearance problems. Works awesome

I've used the FFR supplied pedal for two builds and it seems to work fine. The Breeze unit looks a lot nicer and is probably a better choice.

As Mike said, definitely upgrade to the Lokar cable. My first FFR cable got too hot and sort of melted after coming into contact with the valve cover. While your at it go ahead and upgrade to the Ford Performance clutch cable if you have not already.

Enjoy the build!

Thanks for the replies.

Rich, I can't make the linkage work without a lot of modifications, like raising the cross shaft and having the levers point downward instead of upward. Since my car is basically completed, I'm not going down that path.

So, I've ordered a Lokar cable. And Tim, I'm already using the Ford Performance adjustable clutch cable.

I have the same setup. Fox body pedal box, power brakes, and 5 spd. I used the Forte kit and it worked fine. The trick with the Ford Pedal box is to put in in kind of upside down. I have the the vertical connections hanging below the bar and the linkage to the bottom of the sniper. I did need to grind a little of the metal away on the pedal box. But that was it. The mounting will be different on the firewall along with the hole into the engine compartment. But it works great. You can see on my build thread page 5 post 185.

Yeah, I was searching last night and I found your post. (Wish I would have seen it before I installed mine.)

Too much trouble now to change since I'd need to raise the cross-shaft, etc.

Live and learn.
