I never put the plastic hood scoop on. I have bought the new carbon fiber scoop, which i will be putting on the car. However, I need to cut the hole in the hood before I get my new scoop. Are the dimensions for the two scoops the same? I want to use the plastic scoop as a template to cut the hole before sending the car off to paint.

Reasonably yes. Withing an 1/8 of an inch or so. I cut the opening the same for both.

As Mike said the two scoops are virtually identical in size and shape. I urge you to use my pattern for the cutout:

This will allow a little "wiggle room" for placing the scoop centered on the stripes. The center of the hood is not the center of the car so if you set the scoop based on the hood center the stripes will have to be adjusted to hit it.

And remember to center it to the body, not the hood.

Not planning on getting stripes for now, but I suppose it would be wise to center it on the body to allow for it in the future.. Centered on the car body, approximately how far off center will it be on the hood? Will it be visibly off center if I don’t get the stripes?

Nvm. It just occurred to me that I can actually measure this myself tomorrow…. Gotta lay off the homemade beer, it’s quite potent..

Now for the difficult part. I thought had decided on the colour, Viking Blue, but I am second-guessing myself now... I think i have to get my options painted on samples to decide.

No. It's just that it is off you have to do some "fudging" with the stripes to hit both the center of the scoop as well as the center of the nose rather than being able to run them straight all the way front to back.

I did some quick measuring. Kinda hard to find good points on the body to measure from, that thing has no straight lines! How do you do it when you measure? Anyway, it seems from what I could figure out that the offset isn't as bad as i imagined, so I'm not so concerned anymore. I will cut the hole as suggested, and then fit and drill for the scoop after I get the car back from paint. I think on this car you can only get so far with accurate measurements. Sometimes I guess one will have to go with what looks best.

The most accurate measuring tool for these cars are your eyes

For establishing that line you first need to install, adjust and gap the trunk and hood. Put the license plate lamp on and reference where it's center is then go to the front and find the center between the headlights (it'll be about 17 7/8"). Pull a string between those two points all the way through the cockpit opening and that is your center.

Use that for placing the scoop and laying out stripes.
