View Full Version : Does anyone have specs/dimensions/plans for coupe chassis dolly?

I was planning on just working off of jackstands, but I wondered if I should go ahead and build a nice rolling dolly before the car gets here that would allow me to get it a little higher off the ground for comfort while working on it.

Has anyone built something like that for their coupe that they have plans for or dimensions at least? I’m okay just measuring after the kit gets here and building it then, but thought I’d check.

Thanks!

This is how I did it. Very solid. Adjustable in height.

I did this. On front and back I bolted two 4x4s and sandwiched a 2x4 between, then bolted that to a 2x10 as a base. I connected these front and back crossmembers with two 2x4’s. (Back crossmember 60” and front 52”). I mounted the wheels into the 2x10s. Probably overbuilt but it won’t collapse! But, don’t do what I did and accidentally put the two wheels with brakes on the right side, instead of on the front or back! Duh!

Thanks! Seems like a great setup. So the rear is a little wider than the front then? I think I might do something like this. Did you ever wish it was a little higher off the ground?

Yep. Just starting my build so not a lot of time on it. This setup puts the bottom of the frame at 14”. Given its weight and sturdiness, you could probably anchor some jack stands on top for additional height.

Like Scott, we also thought the idea of having an adjustable height dolly would be useful. We want a little over the top with our version but a big part of that was teaching my son to TIG weld. I don't necessarily recommend going our route because it's overkill, but that being said I have CAD drawings with dimensions if that would be helpful to you.

You can see our dolly in the build thread, posts #59 and #60

Good luck!

Yes I saw yours and LOVED it! That’s a little above my skill level, though. I plan to follow your build closely as I embark upon mine. Thanks!
