Steering Rack Paint

Seen a few builders here and there paint the center part of the steering rack. I believe most used POR-15 and then a clear coat. Anyone by chance painted it white?

And/or anyone used just a clear coat on top of the existing rack for protection? If so, did you scuff it up before painting or just clean everything before the clear coat?

I suppose I could have done something to pretty it up, but I did nothing to the rack when I build the car 23-years ago. The remanufactured rack was purchased new from the local Ford delaership. Now, admittedly I have not driven the car a lot -- only 2K miles -- but this picture was taken two years ago when I added power steering
