Dash Switches?

I'm wrapping up sorting through the dash wiring and then on to switch locations. I don't want to discover later that I should have planned on something that I missed, and the kit-included switches increase my concern. I have the Vintage gauges, so indicator lights are in the gauge.

My kit contains:
(2) "17246 on/off" - these are SPST
(1) "17247 on/on" - this is SPDT
(1) "17248 on/on" - this is SPDT
(1) "17249 on/off/on" - this is a DPDT

The two SPDT switches have different amp ratings and one has a center detent and the other doesn't.

My direction is:
> SPDT no detent for headlight dimmer switch
> SPDT center detent for turn signals
> DPDT for hazard using center and one set of throws
> SPST - not used??

I think this is everything I have to plan on. Anything else I should be thinking about?
> horn
> key
> headlights
> headlight dimmer
> turn signals
> hazard
> heater
> wiper
> seat heaters

Thanks,

Pat

I think the SPST is typically used as a manual cooling fan override. At least, that's what I used it for.

I highly recommend using a foot switch for the headlight dimmer. Goes well with another must, a dead pedal. In the dark fumbling for a dash sw, not me.224524

Thanks Anthony. Probably won't spend the time on the foot switch since I'm one of those people who almost always drives with low beams on. Plus, with this car there will be very little night driving for me. Just last night as I was sorting out the wiring and switches and I considered eliminating it entirely. But, there is a dash light for high beams that I should wire up.

Just got in my daily driver to check out the dead pedal area. Seems that I do put my left foot there, so I'll have to check out your suggestion during go-karting.

Thanks,

Pat

Hi Pat,

You've got it right. I used one of the SPST switches for my electric power steering pump; that allows me to easily move the car around in the garage without firing up the motor.

Your list of other things to plan for (horn, key, ... seat heaters) looks comprehensive as well. Do you have foot box fans? If so, that's missing. Many of us put switches on one or more under dash panels. This keeps the dash from looking cluttered. I put the seat heater & foot box fan switches under the dash.

I have a switch to turn the rad fan on manually, and another for driving lights. Some may wire driving lights to their hi-beam switch, but I have had a separate independent switch on all my vehicles.

I put the switches for the seat heaters and foot box blowers on a panel between the seats. I installed a hidden "master kill switch" under the dash and the reostat for the electric power steering is also under the dash. The remaining switches are on the CF dash lower center. I installed "press to test" lamps for warning lights and turn signals. I also used a foot dimmer switch. I did not use any of the RF/FFR supplied switches, they all seemed kinda cheesy to me.
