My car is still in the shop. waiting for an inspection call. Hope it will be soon. With a fan in front of the car, I turn it on and let it idle for a half hour. Using the carburetor linkage I can run it up to 3500 sounds good and goes back down to an 800 idle speed. After about 30 minutes the engines starts missing and shuts off. And will not restart. Have checked the spark off the coil and its very weak. About a 1/4 in. spark. When I let the coil cool off the car will start again. I have an MSD Balster 2 coil . I checked the reviews and their have been some issues with this coil. I am looking for a replacement coil and thinking about a MSD 8222. Any other recommendations? Or should I just stick with the MSD blaster 2/ ( which only has a 3 month warranty)
Thanks for your help.

What ignition system do you have?

FWIW, I have had two Blaster coils fail. The first one I bought used at a swap meet, it worked good for about 1 year then started being hard to start when hot. The second was new and it failed the same way after 2 years. I now have a MSD E core coil (not oil filled) that has been going strong for about 20 years.

MSD Blaster 2 coil. You have found the problem right there. I will never use an MSD coil, buy an iron core coil, not an OIL filled one. I still use an original 1992 Mustang coil, after have 3 MSD coil fail in a 7 month time frame.

I've used the Blaster Vibration Resistant coils. They are filled with epoxy and not oil. Haven't had any issues.

My roadster's MSD8227 TFI coil has worked fine for 15+ years. The common advice back then was to mount the coil in a position where it wasn't subject to heat, which I did. So perhaps that may play a role with some people having failures.
I have heard numerous times that the newer MSD products are not near as reliable as the old ones were.

Ever since Holley acquired MSD their reliability issues seem to be history.
