Anyone have a trick for securing the inner adaptor piece whilst getting the spinner on? I get about halfway and the inner adaptor just starts spinning. I must be missing something simple. Thanks in advance.

After trying a couple different methods including setscrews, O rings, and pool noodles I now use the KISS method and put 3 generous blobs of silicone (real silicone, not the latex tub and tile stuff) on the flange of the center and drop it into the wheel then put the spinner on and run it down finger tight. Let it set for 24 hours and remove the spinner---the center will stay firmly in place but if you need to remove it for tire mounting or whatever a couple of firm blows with a plastic or rubber mallet will break it loose.

I bought a set of these from a forum vendor that is no longer with us (RIP, Dave). You might reach out to some of our current vendors (Brent at Snakebite Motorworks, Frank at I.I.427) to see if they may be interested in producing something similar.

Same plan as Jeff Kleiner uses. Works very well as long as its good silicone.

I use Team III wheels and I don't have an issue with my spinners. I don't use any "glue type" method either. I simply put the hub/spinner on the wheel and make it hand tight, mount the wheel/tire to the spindle, install lug nuts (easily turning the spinner to allow access), then tighten the spinner and give it a smart whack with my dead blow to tighten the spinner/hub/adapter without it spinning a bit. Tighten the setscrew and done. Removing is easy. Loosen setscrew, tap spinner (but don't remove it, although you could), by hand rotate it as I remove lug nuts and off it comes. Their inner hub/spinner is pretty tight and it stays on the wheel and usually have to give it a tap to dislodge it when off.

Thanks for the responses. Tech support recommended a light smear of 3M trim adhesive (known in the airline world as "gorilla snot"). I let it set for about 10 mins and it worked great.

I know “speed tape.” Now I know another. Good gouge!

This how I do it on my builds
3/32 Roll pin pressed in the cap
Snap ring holds it down and the roll pin keeps it from spinning.

300 plus builds helps to find the best method. Smart, easy and it works.

What size is the snap ring? Or maybe it comes with the spinners? I haven't unboxed those yet.

It looks like 520 Speedworks is making the rings I mentioned above:

Those are pretty cool, but for me it's not a $125 problem.

Try this again...

I did something similar, but took it a step further. CDXXVII made some rings and was kind enough to give me a set. I attached the rings to the spinner mount with some roll pins (with the help of a machinist friend), essentially making it a one piece assembly. The set screws hold the two-piece assembly in the hub of the wheel/rim.

Years after I did these, I have wondered if the ring could just be welded to the spinner mount. Maybe next time....

I don't want to offend anyone, and yes I am fully aware that I started the thread seeking advice (tech support was closed for lunch), but, when I spoke to them and they recommended a schmear of gorilla snot, it cost me about a nickel in material and 30 seconds of time per wheel and worked wonderfully 10 minutes later. The fancy rings cost $125 and at least an hour of labor if not more to make them work. I'm not sayin' I'm just saying. The tech whom I spoke with lamented to me that the procedure he recommended should be included in the manual. I agree.
I am always grateful to this forum for its ideas and support.

I agree, but here, it's who can over-engineer the most, for the most.

Remember this when you are trying to remove a wheel and the spinner and cap are not coming off because the silicone, snot, or whatever has come loose and you get to destroy the cap to get the spinner off and spend $130 + shipping to replace it. These over-engineered solutions will look pretty good about then. Don't be hatin' us engineers. :p

I got the speed works ones, just haven't installed them yet. I have no problem with overkill, and didn't think the cost was a big deal.

So, I have done a few, but did not have any issues with just pulling the threaded part forward with one hand, while spinning the adapter on. There is always a better way though and looks like many have invested in this!

Ordered the Snap ring and Roll Pin from Mcmaster-carr. Came to $30 with shipping and had them in 2 days. Worth it.

I've tried most every method described in this thread, Mike Eversons method is by far the easiest and most reliable method.
With the set screw ring method, I found that it affected wheel weights enough to upset the wheel balance (sure, you could re-balance the wheel, but then you'd need to do that OFTEN) Also, it was easy enough to get the ring offset JUST enough that it was then EASIER to foul the threads.

I DO recommend adding just a little lubricant to the threads when installing - and I really prefer JeffK's suggestion of dry silicone.

Also.... Yes, it SUCKS when you get one stuck and have to cut it off using extreme care....... then get to pay $135 to get a new one. BTDT
