Hope all is well in the FFR world. I have always believed in killing people with kindness. I am asking for advice from the forum. I have reached out to FFR a number of times with various questions in regards to my MK5 build and I don't get any responses. I have emailed and left messages with no response. Am I going about this the wrong way? Any help in appreciated

Based on the various posts I have seen from Dave in the last 30 days I am guessing there is still quite a bit of turmoil there. They have never been particularly fast but normally respond within a day or two. But no, I don't think you are going about this the wrong way. I have emailed, then called and typically have received a response.

As already stated above, FFR is in the middle of an internal restructure, which could lead to delays as new processes are put in place, employees trained, and the bugs worked out. Given their volume, coupled with the fact that FFR is still a small company (respectfully) I'd suspect this will take awhile. In the short term painful, in the long run, beneficial to all.

With that said:

What type of questions are you asking?
How to do something?
The status of parts?
Etc and so forth?

Like Bill and Mike said, any questions pertaining to the build will get answered here way faster. Parts are another question, but I can't see anyone being held up. Plenty to do on these things, and you don't need to go in order of the manual!

Unless it's a parts status question your best resource for answers is here. What do you need to know?

Jeff, while I have you cornered here. Would completing the install of the aluminum (all but the DS footbox and trans tunnel cover) create any problems when installing the rear axle, 3 link system, rear brake lines, and gas tank?

Thanks! James

I can relate to your frustration with contacting FFR for support. A learning I picked up along the way, and am dealing with now, (this is my first build, and it is a MK5) it is not about how fast the panels go on, it is about the access you loose once the engine and transmission goes in. There are things that should be easy to fix but you become space constrained.

I'm not Jeff, but you can install all of the panels you speak before the rear parts. Ideally you would have a lift(not sure if you do) space under there is tight once the rear end and gas tank are in. Run as much of the brake, fuel lines and wiring as you can before the rear end goes in.

Yall gotta learn to think outside the box on some things, use the search function etc. I knew these cars from tailpipe to headlights before I ever even had my hands on one with all the research I did. If you want bad customer service go over to the gt40 forums where guys are waiting 14+ months for cars to arrive. FFR is doing an amazing job in that regard. I understand maybe unique parts that you paid for missing etc, but simple bolts, aluminum panels etc, do it yourself or move onto the next step in the build.

My advice, and I wish I would have done this… is drill it all and hold them in place with clecos until the last possible moment. You’ll find the order is important for drilling, installing things, etc. Final silicone and riveting goes pretty fast. Marking drilling and cleaning holes is what takes time. My $.02. Good luck!

Another piece of advice, place the panels in front before doing power steering, brake line installation. If not you’ll end up having to hack the panels after to accommodate all the lines you installed.

I feel your pain. I left several messages for the parts dept. BUT TODAY I GOT LUCKY. Saw the note on my monitor and gave it a shot and Travis answered the phone. So, I went and bought a few scratch offs, not so lucky . But I'm a happy camper, lucky enough to finally get that 90* DD steering shaft.
