I got 3 of the 4 shocks mounted on my MK5, but I noticed that the manual shows the orientation with the spring hat up on some photos and the spring hat down in other photos. Does it matter? Here are some examples from the manual, showing both orientations for the Red Koni shocks:

Some will have specific reasons for how they're oriented in their build. Clearance, etc. But technically the red Koni's can be oriented either way. Doesn't matter for their operation.

Okay, thank you - I feel like spring hat up looks better.

Also, I am glad you responded - I'm saving your Mk5 build thread to review, amazing info for a newbie like me!

If you are doing solid axle in the rear make sure spring is to the top. At the bottom interferes with other components. Other then that dealers choice.
