Are you guys working on getting a Coyote specific oil pan and headers ready for this motor? I had read you were working on fitting one in your silver MK4 but hadn't seen anything of recent.

I should have a beta pan from Champ by the beginning of next week. I'll post some pictures when I get it. David Borden and ASTGlenn are working on a header package that consists of a FFR 2V header and an adapter flange from Glenn. Stay tuned. Things are just starting to come together.

I should add that the headers are for the Roadster correct? The Coupe and '33 Hotrod takes a different design, so if you're contemplating a Coyote powered Coupe or '33 you'll still be on your own (for now anyway)...

Mark is right. Both David and I are doing roadster builds. The exhaust concept that David has come up with would apply to the coupe, but not the Hotrod. The Hotrod has an additional problem with the alternator location.

Mark, though I know they did put a Coyote in the 33, I am not sure what they used for headers.

Thanks for clarifying my clarification Gary! :p

If our Coyote powered Coupe build happens I guess I'll be sending a PM to Mr. Borden!

Someday, I've been all around that '33 at the Daytona Turkey Run, but the car had side covers on, so no way to easily see the headers. I guess I'll have to dig up the episodes from RTM and see if they mention/show the headers used.

Mark, I'm going to take a wild guess and theorize that they grafted a coyote flange onto a 4.6 shorty header. The ports are the same size and align perfectly, the only difference bing the bolt pattern (go figure).

Mark, Daves build is on this forum now, you can see what he is planning for the header flanges. He and Jim are both usually on for our Forza racing nights Monday and Thursday, I can ask Jim Monday what they used on the 33. Joe, I think they may have made an adapter plate and used the shorty header, I just can't remember from the conversations. I try to get David and Jim talking Coyote as much as possible as a diversionary tactic in the racing :-)

I've seen pics of Dave's prototype, and I don't think it'll work for the coupe, as there is no 4.6 coupe header to use it with. Unless, you want to use roadster headers and pipes in a coupe and then use the adapters.

I wasn't aware that there was not a 4.6 option for the coupe. That'll make things a little harder.

Correct. Current options are 302/351 and they use a "tri-y" type header to split into the twin side pipes...

I have feeling we'll be hand making our own headers from a bunch of bends, but I'll still need a flange to start with. The 5.0L crate engine does not come with production manifolds (like the Three-Valve 4.6L did) so I can't even cut them off from there.

We do have an '11 GT here with long tubes on it. I just have to find out where the stock pipes went and I might be able thack those up...

Mark, Astglenn will cut a set for you on his giant water pistol. You can buy a set of stainless flanges from Kooks right now.

Sounds like a box of 180's and a stick of tubing. Then a solid day of mock up. Once you have the bend tables, there are plenty of fab shops that can crank out the mandrel bends at a reasonable cost. Then you can do a weld up kit that wont cause a cardiac event due to cost. You just need a really nice guy from the group that is willing to do the initial mock up and tack work.

More like a "Bi-Y" :)

John, I agree, but wasn't sure how to describe it, thus the quotes around my term Tri-Y...

:D

Glenn, boy, that sure sounds like you're offering... :p

I know FFR has a lot of irons in the fire right now, but as close as they work with Ford Racing and as popular as the Coyote is (FRPP can barely keep them in stock) it would behoove FFR to get with BBK or some vendor of theirs to make Coyote headers for the Roadster, '33, and Coupe. It's the wave of the future! :p

Mark, FFR is putting their efforts into a J-pipe/cat setup. This engine was designed to be emissions compliant, and that means cats. And probably evap control also.

Joe, you were right on the 33. They used a pair of Ford Racing shorty headers and cut the flange off and welded on a new flange.

I believe Doug Thorley is working on headers for the '33 also. The car in the Falken booth had the Thorley headers on it.
