Hi gents,

First off, HNY! Here's hoping we all have a fantastic '26!

I suspect this is common knowledge, but I think I missed the memo so I figured I'd just ask the question. In terms of the brake components used on the Mk 4 cars (solid axle), what year Mustang parts are being used? I've heard guys mention that the front calipers supplied by FFR have their share of issues, but if someone want to replace them what year Mustang should we be looking at? The same thing goes for brake pads, so I'd appreciate any info you can share.

Thanks!

Rob

My MK4 Fronts are 99-04 Mustang GT. Rears for my solid axle F5 brake kit are 87-88 T Bird. I tossed the kit provided pads and went with Hawk pads and am happy.

Happy New Year!

So far I'm going with what F5 supplied. It took me quite a while to get the caliper mounted because there is very little wiggle room between the pads and the rotor. They seem very tight compared to my other vehicles. I also don't care for the M12 torx bolt provided. I don't have that one torx socket that truly fits so I have to make a trip to the store. The socket I used had a little play, good for getting it tight, but not good for torquing the bolt. The calipers also came pre-assembled.

I plan on just getting the F5 rear brake kit since it has the mounting bracket where you don't have to pull the axle shafts.

Guys,

Thanks for the info! So let me make sure I've got this right. For the current Mk4 the front brakes are '99 thru '04 Mustang GT, while the rear brakes '87/'88 T-Bird. I expected that the front brakes were Mustang, but I didn't realize the rears (for the solid rear) were T-Bird. I guess you learn something new every day!!!
