Looking to see what others have done. Old 302 carb is out and new 347 EFI is in waiting on better weather to drive here in upstate NY.
Blueprint has a Sniper startup guide which says NOT to use the Wizard or you delete Valuable learned info from your Dyno testing. However the ECU does not have this dyno file, you have to upload it from the SD card. I have started the engine a few times using the Wizard setup file since the 347 specific file sounds generic, as not installed as delivered. Now after re-reading I am thinking of uploading the 347 specific file I do have. Does anyone have an opinion or experience? Is the engine dyno’d with a used sniper and then a new sniper installed for shipment? I realize that long term I will be tweaking the config but is it better to start with BP file or the Wizard?

First step will be making a copy of the file BP provided as their starting point. Next step will be to drive the car with that file and see how it does. There isn't much in the way of tuning for a Sniper except in the fuel and timing tables (if you have the Sniper controlling timing), and the fuel table will adjust with driving to some extent.

You can load the Holley EFI PC software and open the config on the SD card, and then compare it to the config that the Wizard generates. That would tell you whether BPE has other changes in their config other than the fuel table (modified by the learn table). As Dave said, if it's only the fuel table that's different, there's not a huge amount of learning lost, and that will be replaced in your early drives.

I want to make sure you don't misinterpret Dave's other comment. There are a tremendous number of parameters which affect how your engine starts, idles, warms up, and responds to input, and many of these are set by the Wizard way off from where they need to be. In my mind that means - eventually, not right away - either a professional tune or some serious DIY tuning. You can 'live with' a lot less, but I don't think you'll be happy enough to grab the roadster keys over your DD anytime the weather is right.

John is correct that there are a bunch of settings that can be tuned, but I would expect most people will never dig that deep unless they are a very skilled Sniper tuner. Most of the settings should be set by BPE or by the wizard, and I'd definitely start with BPE's provided tune. Most of the deeper settings involve set-and-forget values for engine parameters, ignition type, EFI parameters such as injector type and parameters for flow rates and timing, etc. Some others are I/O, which for most of our cars will be configuring your fan and A/C settings.

I would expect BPE to have all the idle, sensor settings, and other engine parameters set correctly for the engine in the file they provided you. The wizard sets these based on responses to questions that you may or may not know the best response to.

All that said, you can experiment all you want and be able to get back to a known starting point in a matter of seconds with the saved BPE file.

Thanks gents. I like the idea of comparing the two files after I do a couple of drives with the Wizard file now loaded. As a recently retired engineer I enjoy understanding some of the details on "how it works". My first foray into EFI details. Sounds like I will be switching over to the BP 347 base file after those couple of trial runs. Just need some clean no salt roads. Temp less an issue as I have heater and used to drive my other convertibles in cold temps, ski hat on.. I will report back but it maybe a few weeks, weather dependant.

Welcome to the world of EFI. Personally I love it, been messing with it since the early 90's with a DOS based "laptop" and narrow band O2 sensors. Since you have an engineering background I'm confident you will catch on quickly, EFI is actually very logical when you break it down. You just need to get your head around what the engine wants and how EFI does it vs. a carb. For example, a cold engine needs to run rich so a carburetor will close a mechanical choke to reduce the air into the engine. An EFI system enrichens the fuel when the engine is cold by adding to the injector pulse time. Different method but logical.

Happy tuning!

If you're thinking that the original file has been lost, changed, or compromised, Maybe reach out to James at BP and find out if they keep a copy of their dyno file for your engine. Might luck out.
