I feel stupid asking this question, but did anyone else have problems removing the knob from the light switch for dash mounting? I have removed the set screw from the knob but it will not come off, even with leverage and heat. I think I will damage the switch itself if I apply any more "persuasion" to removing the knob. I'm wondering if there is something I'm missing. Thanks

I took the knob off mine to check it out -- came off very easily after loosening the set screw. I did notice the shaft is kind of triangular so the knob will only slide on one way. Try wiggling the knob (as opposed to pulling) -- maybe it's just wedged onto the triangle wrong.

OK, I'm feeling like an idiot. Despite the urge to delete this post and hide my shame, perhaps it will help someone else. There is a button on the bottom of the switch that allows you to remove the entire switch shaft. I was pushing it in, but the trick is that the switch needs to be in the on/fully out position for the button to disengage the catch and allow the entire shaft to pull out. Even with the shaft out, I can't get the knob off the shaft. It feels like it's welded on. The set screw is entirely unnecessary.

No apology necessary. I didn't know the shaft came out. I also had trouble with mine. I used WD-40 and everything I could think of. Ended up putting needle nose vice grips on the shaft, just below the knob, then a small screwdriver was the wedge between the vice grips and the knob. The knob popped off and flew across the garage.
