Got a message from Mark with Cunningham that he'll be at my place on 12/22 to deliver my Mk5 kit so I guess I can go ahead and get this build thread started now.

My timeline:
11/12 - Placed order online for Mk5 complete kit as well as for the Coyote engine/trans package on factoryfive-at
11/13 - Received email from FFR with sales invoice and a completion date showing of 12/13. Contacted Todd at Cunningham Transport to get on their schedule ($2600 to San Diego for the Mk5 and $500 for the engine/trans)
12/12 - 12/14 - Attended Roadster build school at Mott Community College. Scott Schumaker and Jim Jennings were the instructors. Great experience and highly recommend.
12/15 - Receive call from Todd at Cunningham that his driver Mark is at Factory Five and will finish loading up that day and will get on the road the next day.
12/17 - Mark texted stating he would be at my place on 12/22. Engine/trans will be delivered some time later down the road. Apparently FFR is waiting on engines from Ford Performance and have no idea on when they'll get them.

My order:
Complete Mk5 kit
Coyote engine/trans from Factoryfive-AT
Hydraulic clutch
Coyote stainless headers
Uncoated/Bare steel side exhaust (planning to go black with cerakote)
IRS
Power steering (I've read the KRC kit spacers needs some modifications to work with the Gen4 Coyotes)
Speedhut Vintage GPS 7 gauge set. Also ordered the oil temp gauge to replace the clock
Leather roadster seats
Powder coated chassis
Powder coated driver and passenger rollbars
Wilwood front and rear (black). Also ordered their electric parking brake from Summit
17x9 and 17x10.5 Halibrand replica wheels. Will get tires a little later. Current plan is to powdercoat wheels satin black
Leather steering wheel
Mk5 body with cutouts
Carbon fiber dash
3" Simpson harnesses
GT300 Raydot side mirror. Won't be using it as I plan to order mirrors from Breeze
ABS plastic hood scoop
Over-rider bumper kit
Remote brake booster
All of the free options

This will be my first build so I've been watching a bunch of videos on YouTube as well as following most of the build threads on here. I've learned a lot already and going to the build school gave me the opportunity to see it in person. I've got my Milwaukee rivet gun and am ready to get started! Goal is to be done, except for paint/body, by the end of 2026. Guess I'm a couple years to late to get Jim Miller to handle the paint, which would've been nice since he was only an hour from me, so I'll be trailering it about 9 hours up to Ken Pike when the time comes. As for color, I've been going back and forth on this so much. I've been a lifelong Lions fan so I was thinking something to kind of match their alternate helmets like below or something like Jeff Kleiner posted of a car he did back in 2019 using "PPG Vibrance "Hellfire" and the stripes are a custom color from Charley Hutton".

I look forward to following along Jason! Enjoyed meeting and chatting with you at SEMA. As for your color selection; I’m about to paint one using Painthouse Randyapple3 and the Charley Hutton Punaluu Stone gray stripes… it’ll be very similar to the Hellfire/Punaluu but without having to go with a tri-coat. I’ll show you photos when it’s done. Enjoy the adventure!

Traffic delayed him a day but Mark made it here this morning with plenty of goodies. To my surprise, he had my Coyote engine/trans package as well! He's headed up north from San Diego now with a coupe, 2 more roadsters, and a hot rod for some lucky individuals. Several items on backorder (CF dash, speedhut gps gauge set, 17" wheels, chassis harness, front spindles, driveshaft, trans mount, brake booster.....) so will see where I have to skip around. Hope to go through the boxes and get the inventory done this week.

Looking forward to following your thread. I’m in San Diego fairly regularly if you ever want to show off your ride or need a hand moving heavy things…

Best,
Dan

Taking a break from trying to get the IRS in so figured I can post an update. Got the inventory completed last month and besides the things listed above that were on backorder, I was missing a few small things (one of the required two 2.45" steering rack spacers, only 1 sun visor, and some dash buttons/pigtails). Spoke with Nick at FFR on 1/12 about the missing parts. On 1/14 I received a FedEx package from FFR that had my trans mount, front spindles package, gauges, brake booster, and a few other of the backordered parts. Picked up a few replacements/upgrades. The engine/trans came with a McLeod hydraulic release bearing so I'll need to pull the trans off and swap that out at some point. Also ordered the Breeze fan shroud and power steering lines.

Got the shocks assembled.

After received that shipment with the front spindles I went ahead and put the front suspension together. I did have to remove shocks and then put them back as I forgot to verify they were set to softest setting (they were). I tried setting the UCA arms to lengths I've seen posted on here and from a pic in an old manual they had at the build school that had measurements using the zerk fitting. When I did that, they had a very negative camber. This is where I have them now just to make the rotor look close to vertical.

One thing I'll mention because I hate have extra parts and I've never seen it brought up before is the front spindle parts included these 12 point bolts and the manual shows using these to install the caliper bracket to the spindle. My Wilwoods came with a package of bolts as well that are for the same thing. The 12 pt were easier to get on and torque so I went with those. The heads on the Wilwood hex bolts were very close to the spindle and you could barely get a socket on it.

Rear spindles chopped and replaced the lugs on the hubs. I followed Pauls lead and didn't chop off quite as much as they call for in the manual. I used a 12 tpi metal blade in my sawzall. Stopping every 15 or so seconds to apply more cutting oil and it went through no problem. Also opened up the holes on the spindles and the rear diff using a 5/8" reamer bit. Once again, cutting oil and cleaning out the bit every once in a while and it was easy.

Pretty much brings me to where I'm currently at. Decided to try and install the IRS by myself instead of waiting for my friend to come over and help. Picked up a couple extra M16-130 bolts and put them against the grinder to create some guide pins for the front. Brought the engine hoist to the rear and used the arm to tie a few ratchet straps around it to lift the IRS up and into position. I was able to get a jack in between the engine hoists legs as well to give a little more support/lift when needed. Initially got it up and above all the bushings and since the fronts were already close, I got those lined up using my guide pins. Could not get the rear to lower down enough initially because of how tight it was and as I when trying to get it lower it was compressing the rear bushing and then would get caught on the lip of the bushing hole which prevented lowering it more. Ended up spraying some lube in there and using a pry bar to get just enough space that the lower section came down but the holes didn't quite line up due to these newer offset rear bushings FFR is using. That's where I stopped last night. Came back out today and after pulling the rear up enough to remove/reposition/replace the bushings, I got both of the rear section bolts started (hallelujah). But now the fronts are sitting just below the holes on the front bushing and when trying to lift them up into position they are catching on the holes preventing it from going up. Have to find a good place to try and pry the IRS rearward now to lift the front.

Does everyone's IRS have those notches in the front bolt holes? Its so tight I'm almost thinking that notch in the front should have that much removed from the whole front area. Even then it would still be tight but not this ridiculously tight
