My MK5 with Coyote build is at a body shop for prime and paint. They are very concerned (as am I) about how close the pax side exhaust components come to the forward panel of the pax side footwell, and the potential for dangerous heat transfer.
Any ideas from the brain trust on how to dampen/mitigate this problem? Thanks in advance.

I riveted hollow cookie sheets to the foot boxes with 1/4" spacers. the foot woxes stay nice and cool.

Great idea! Was that to the inside or outside?

Unless the body is actually touching the header, there is no issue . I had a 1/8" clearance on one of mine, white paint and not even discoloring. Also no issues if you have a 1/2" or more space from the aluminum panels. no damage will be done

I added aluminum sheets on both sides, to the front of my footboxes (3/32" thk) with 3/8" spacers to my MK4. They also wrap around the inside edge.

Outside. They're aluminum and I left the engine bay bare so they blend right in.

I used this and wrapped the lower side of the foot well. Seemed to do the trick.

My friend has a Land Rover with an aluminum shield on his entire roof top. It has probably 1/4" standoffs, but it prevents direct sun radiation on his roof and while driving, air moves through the narrow space.
One thing nice about aluminum is it does not re-radiate heat. Having a thin sheet with standoffs is very effective.
