I started looking at various headlight upgrades for my Coupe build and I came across a great video that anyone considering buying LED headlights for your build may want to watch.

Thanks for posting this Dave. I had settled on the Holley RetroBrights so seeing this helped confirm that decision. For those interested, they are 10% off at Summit as we speak.

Thanks, Tim. I'm pretty sure I'll be going that direction as well but will hold off on my purchase for a while in spite of the current discount. I've done enough damage to my bank balance this month with my gauges, Christmas shopping, and my anniversary.

Not only are most of them junk, but they look cheap, too. At the risk of offending some folks, I absolutely hate the 7" LED headlights that have three or four bugeyes inside of them. They look so wrong on our cars. I got the Breeze LED headlight setup, and it looks and works great. I like that they don't look like the cheap LED headlights so prevalent in the market today.

These....just awful!

Thanks for the information. That channel had another video for 7" round lights on classic cars where they compared the three options for the Holley Retrobrights. The modern white significantly out performed the other options.

Something else that was news to me is that Holley partnered with Morimoto to design / engineer that headlight. Makes it seem even more legitimate since Holley isn't exactly known for lighting.

I'm still not sure whether I like the modern LED projector style or not, however I respect those who think it's nonsense in a classic car. We're not trying to be period correct with our build or to please anyone else, but we're still a long ways off from making that decision.

When I built my MK4, I went with the PL-700 Tri-Bar reflectors with Sylvania Slverstar Ultra bulbs. I love how they look on the car, but driving at night can be challenging in rural areas with no lighting on the roads.

For the Coupe, I'd like something with a more modern look, but won't sacrifice performance for appearance. The Holley RetroBrights are a very solid contender, but don't bring any of the modern appearance with them. I'm also looking at the Truck-Lite 27270c option that out performs the Holley while adding some modern styling.

Have any of you seen any comparison to the Phillips H6024LED ? I'm running them in my 68 Camaro, I wonder how they compare to the Holley. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/phl-h6024led?srsltid=AfmBOoohDsSuajmXfrAAuzvsEag1HKwzl 6BdufBZQyiYl4l3b8SzGrc_

I hadn't recalled you installing these in your 68 but they look like a real contender. When looking at them do they still retain some of the classic look?

I lean towards the warmer color headlights. The blue and white color lights offer too much contrast for me to be able to see anything outside the light field. That is my limitation. Warmer colors reduce contrast and glare (less reflected light) which allows me to see things outside the light field. Warmer colors also reduce eye strain.

I like the modern look of the halo lights and I am not opposed to the projector lamps, but for my personal safety I'll probably go with the warm Holley lights.

Did you not get led headlights with your kit? Or are they just with the anniversary orders?

My Coupe came with old fashioned Sylvania sealed beam halogen headlamps.

I'll put whatever headlights I want in my car and I don't care if anyone else likes them. I've never told anyone their car looks stupid

I have to admit that you’re absolutely correct. These cars are blank slates that we can do pretty much anything with. Just because I’m not a fan of something doesn’t mean that someone else won’t appreciate it.

When my PS headlight low beam recently ceased functioning (broken connector tab on the original), I updated my headlights to halogens. While probably not as good as an LED upgrade (future project), I like the look of these and they're definitely an improvement to the ones we get with the kit.

To each their own, I'm the opposite. I think the retro lights look ugly and the modern halo LED's look great on Cobras. Not offended though ;)

Has anyone ever incorporated Porsche 928 headlights into their coupe … I’ve seen a video from Daytona cobra build where a gentleman had done so and it looked killer … I believe they were off a 928 turbo Porsche …I’m looking to do the same and maybe due the lotus taillights in my coupe to really give it a modern almost European feel ! The only thing that may hold me back from doing so is the cost223590
