Hello, I am building a factory five MKIV roadster and I’m currently running the fuel lines. I am using a holly in tank fuel pump with speed flex braided steel hose and a full feed line and a full return line. I am currently running the feed line from the fuel pump to the post filter. As you can see the speed flex hose, and an6 fittings are quite taught. I am trying to avoid having to remove the fuel line and create a new line with new fittings between the fuel pump and the post filter. I am curious if after reviewing the attached photos, anybody finds the tautness of the current line either acceptable or unacceptable. I am worried there needs to be some slack in order to alleviate pressure on the fittings. Thank you very much - any and all input is appreciated.221712221713221714221712221713221714

Pics 1, 4 and 6 it looks a little tight. Pic 2 not so much. Obviously, a fuel line is not one that you want to have any stress on the fitting. I suppose you could get another female to male fitting to extend it or replace the line.

Is there any way you can move/rotate the filter to create some more slack? It’s easier/cheaper to make a new filter mount than lines. I would be uncomfortable with such tight lines.

Thank you to all for the great comments. Appreciate it. So simple to slide the filter within the brackets by an inch. What was I thinking??? Late night in the garage!

Thanks again

Too tight, fuel lines need to lay relaxed. Don't make them so short, just start over and make a new hose.

I agree with Rich...too tight. It's quick and easy to make a new line. Add maybe two inches to the replacement line. And get a Fragola pressure test kit on Amazon. Its cheap (maybe $15), and you can pressurize your fuel lines with an air compressor, and squirt soapy water on the fittings to see if you have any leaks. FWIW, I had two leaks, and both were due to tight bends like yours. ;)

These are Earl’s fittings and speed flex hose. I’ve got the pressure test kit and pressurized them thoroughly under water - the whole assembly. I was able to get 1.5 inches from moving the filter and another 1 inch from an 6an fitting.

Appreciate all the good advice. Clearly was too tight.

If it was mine I'd remake the line. The fuel lines should have zero tension.. You could replace that fitting with a 45' that might give you the 1/2" more length you need.
