MkV upper control arm ball joint

The assembly manual says to screw in the ball joint so the balljoint angles out on the bottom. When I screw mine all the way into the control arm, it doesn’t angle out at the bottom. Any ideas?

I think that refers to the proper position/orientation of the control arm. If you thread it in from the wrong side it won’t sit correctly when on the car.

Look at the upper ball joint in this pic. You can see that the sleeve that it threads into is welded to the control arm at an angle. If you were to flip the arm over to install on the other side of the car, the sleeve would be at the opposite angle.

Craig is correct. Orient the arm so the ball joint sleeve angles outward, and screw the ball joint in from below.
