View Full Version : Gen3 Coupe IRS E-Brake Cable Problem

Me again! I'm trying to fit the E-brake cables to the IRS calipers on my coupe. There's no way the cable outer barrels will go into the lugs on the caliper - the 12-point bolt head that attaches the caliper to the caliper mount plate is right in the way - see the first picture. But, even if it did go in, the cable would have to route down inside the lower rear lug of the upright right next to the outer CV joint on the drive shaft - this would be crazy, far too great a chance of contact.

I've double checked I don't have the right and left calipers switched - I definitely don't. The picture on page 13 of the IRS-2015-11.65in-BRAKES-rev-C manual which shows the cable routed round the back of the shock has the caliper in a completely different position - looks like a different vehicle - roadster perhaps?

Have other folks found this problem or have I assembled something wrong??

(Wish I knew how to stop the uploader turning pictures on their side!!)

This is what the manual shows - caliper is on top of the rotor - mine is behind it.

I counter sink that hole and use a flat head bolt.

Thanks for the quick reply Mike. Yes, I can see how that could get the cable barrel in position (but I'm not happy about having to strip it all down to get the mounting bracket off - thanks FFR!). But what about the cable routing - this would still have to go real close to the CV joint?

Thought I'd post my final solution. I found an M12 button head bolt made by Unbrako which is grade 12.9 high tensile steel and can take the required tightening torque - they're rated to 90Nm. The pictures tell the rest of the story. It's a tight fit, but at least it goes together.
