Tremec's New 6-Speed Manual Transaxle Theoretically Should Fit Nicely in a C8 Corvette
The supplier says that the new transaxle is "ideal for mid-engine builds and custom rear wheel drive vehicles" ... but we all have the same build in mind.

Snippet from the article.

Looks pretty wide.

I guess I am not seeing the issue with the dual clutch transaxle that is already used in the C8?

I guess people might mistake a DCT for an automatic, but simply not the case.

I had previously been kind of drooling over the Porsche/Audi/VW DCTs and wondering when/if they would become available at a decent price point and with aftermarket controllers.

The C8 trans is huge. Tremec is a customer, and I built inspection fixtures for it. Had an empty case, internal parts and a fully assembled unit. Weighs about 335#.
I would expect the manual to be a fair bit lighter but if the R&T article is accurate with the assessment that the mounting points are common then it probably isn't much smaller.
It had mounting adapters that bolted to the case front. I know that they had two engines adapted, the C8 and another.
If things work out it might be a great option in the GTM or a GT40 replica.

I've been reading about this, and the Corvette forums are all buzzed up about a potential C8 Grand Sport with that transaxle. I'm buying one if thats the case. Time will tell.

Lola T-70?

I have a couple T-70 bodies in my shop. They are tiny cars. If that transaxle was used the axles would have to be like 10 inches long. Not a good setup.

Interesting, I didn't notice how wide it is - so same with the GT40 I presume?

I like the looks of the T70, spider or hard top, either one, but spider would be easier to get in and out of.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the DCT in the C8 now. I have always liked the simplicity of the manual transmission.
It was interesting to me because this gives us (if you deal with fitment issues) an updated trans with better support, sub $200 starter, and cheaper all around components, with higher potential than anything not named Ricardo or Graziano.

"This opens up the floodgates," says Dave Smith, president of Factory Five Racing. "We've got a new mid-engine car coming out, and we were going to do it anyway, but this puts it over the top."

A statement he made for an article...new Midengined car?

Well that's certainly unexpected? I'm guessing that's probably the death sentence for the F9 project?.....

I don't have any inside information on that(although given Dave's previous statements I wish I did) but there seems to have been a lot of "turmoil" around the F9. Not sure why that was, or the roots of those issues, but that project definitely did not go "smoothly".

I hope the truck kit is working out for them. It looks like a pretty awesome platform.

Just as a side note, and maybe I should post this question on a general forum thread, but I wonder if there is anyone that has a complete FFR stable? In other words, someone that has built every car that FFR has offered and has them in a building somewhere? I think it would be really cool to see every single example of the cars FFR has offered over the years in one place, side by side, all built by one builder.

I would think a certain building in Wareham, MA might have one of each. That would be the best bet, I would think. Although they might not have displays of models they no longer offer. Dunno.
