I've been working on a circuit for my car which will act as a power disable for the ignition and starter. Its function will act like an alarm system, but this will use a keypad as opposed to an RF transmitter to allow the user to get voltage to the essential circuits.

Before I finish this circuit, I'd like to guage interest and get some feedback on particulars as it may become available to FF members (any platform, not just GTM).

What you get (items may not be exactly as shown):
- a keypad
- a module that contains circuitry
- instructions
- support

What it does:
- Cuts power to starter, fuel pump, igntion, and one other circuit of your choice
- Requires a four digit code before supplying power to above circuits
- Has a alternate start method in the event of circuit malfunction (all electronics die at some point!)
- Can be fitted to most vehicles with, or without factory secuirty (most makes/models)
- Works well with push button start, but also interfaces with keyed igntions
- Makes it very difficult for theives to get the car mobile

What it wont do:
- prevent your car from getting stolen
- flash lights, or sound an alarm if someone breaks in
- make coffee
- get you all the chicks

The question is: Is there a "cool factor" in having a keypad, over a push-button transmitter alarm system?

Nice idea, and I know there are others available. Have you considered an LCD screen, instead of actual buttons? It might appear to be a little more modern. Just a thought.

I went as far as considering an RFID/Proximity card reader, but not an LCD screen. The touch screen would be awesome, but it would require some sort of driver code which
involves designing a circuit that can accept and understand a digital stream of data. This would be outside of my capability in terms of having equipment to write firmware
onto a 'chip'.

The front end of my circuit is much simpler as it uses voltage to trigger 'latching' gates in a specific sequence.

Hi Buddy. I was curious to your plans for functions/features you're planning for your device compared to similar devices currently on the market like the Directed's 103T. The 103T goes for $30, but doesn't do a lot "as is".

I am planning to modify a 103T to function as a keypad controlled main battery disconnect with the keypad installed out of site.

At the moment, the plan is to keep the circuit simple as explained above. I plan to use a keyless theme for the car which means no door locks (poppers) , or key ignition (push-button).

The reason I thought of using a security code for the ignition is to prevent someone from smashing a window and starting the car. Yes...there are several great alarm systems
that have starter disables built in, however I wanted to make something unique and personal for myself.

I really like the proximity./RFID to enhance the lockout feature and make start-up quick, and easy. Just flip some toggles, and then hit the start button.

Having said that, the back end of "my" circuit will accept the enable signal from the Proximity sensor, and solid state relays will provide the voltage to trigger the fuel pumps and starter solenoid.

To kill the motor, I'll toggle the ignition switches.
