radiator protective screen

I am looking at 1/2 " thick honeycomb radiator guard protector screen on my MK4 Roadster. What percentage of air flow is reduced ? Or what is the reduced efficiency of the radiator?

It looks like a 1/4" thick radiator guard screen would increase the air flow and the efficiency. Has anyone ever seen a 1/4" thick honeycomb guard?

Hi Cleve,

I haven't seen any increase in temperature after installing the 1/2" honeycomb. But my 302 runs cool by nature; larger more powerful engines may see a difference.

Have a 1/2 inch on my Coyote. Live in NC with hot summers & the engine has never run hot in the past 10 years. Car has no shroud but does have a the Everson alloy sheetmetal with a Breeze top piece to seal in the opening to radiator air flow

EDIT: Agree 2 large rattle cans of paint as the material soaks up pant like a blotter.

I have the 1/2 in. honeycomb on my 347 powered MK4 and have not experienced any abnormal temps.

I got the 1/2 inch off amazon, 427 and no issues at over 90 Deg air temp in traffic.

I have the same one F500guy posted. Works great. But it did take about 2 cans of black spray paint to convert the color, thought it would never look right, but it eventually did. Made some channel brackets out of spare metal and riveted them to the radiator tabs. The honeycomb flexes enough to pop in and out for cleaning if needed.

I used the 1/2" nomex honeycomb I found on Summit. I topped that off with a nice SS mesh to prevent rock damage. I made a custom bracket to attach them. I have a 427W and my temp stays at 185 even on hot days.
