Been doing some reading on prep for applying Raptor to aluminum panels. Raptor, recommends a urethane primer or etch primer. Looking for some expert input on the need for those primers. Will I get acceptable adhesion with cleaning the panel, sanding it, and then doing a final clean before applying the Raptor with no primer. Or do I have to do the primer step as well.

I'm planning to apply it to the exposed aluminum in the wheel wells, using a roller.

Thanks,

Pat

I have had TERRIBLE results using etch primer on aluminum. Light scuff wash with hot soap&water dry and immediately coat

The TDS shows only 120-180 on bare aluminum:

I just did some of my panels and used 180 on them, cleaned, and then sprayed. Worked out great. Make sure to cover anything you do not want sprayed and to do it in an open area (the stuff goes everywhere).

I’ve done a bunch of ‘em. Scratch it up with 80, wipe down with acetone and spray away.

Thanks to all who responded. Will move forward with sanding. Had planned on rolling, but we have a "warm" 57 degree day coming this week, so I could open up the shop for ventilation and leave the heat on. Might do the spraying method.

Thanks again.
