Probably been covered but I can't find it. I have MIII with 17" American racing wheels and 245/45/17. These were on the car when purchased. I would like to get the wheel tucked in, so I am not rubbing every time I hit a bump or in a hard curve seeing smoke and smelling rubber. I am220944 going to order new rims but want to find out is this a back space issue or incorrect hub?[ATTACH=CONFIG]220943[

What spindles? 1996 and up SN95 spindles set the wheel out farther than Fox, 1994/1995 SN95 of the FFR spindles. Aligning with a bit more negative camber can bring the top of the tire inward.
As for the correct backspace, the 9" FFR rims have 6.00" backspace 24mm offset.

WOW, you have the narrowest of the common tire sizes so I am thinking it's a wheel backspace problem. As usual Jeff is correct but, if my memory serves, the difference in spindles is about 1/4" to possibly 3/8" and your tire is out of position way more than that. Also I don't think there are any hubs that fit any of the common spindles that that would cause your problem. You can check your wheels by cutting a piece of wood the proper length so it sits against the inner wheel lips on the back side w/o touching the tire. Then use a ruler to measure down to the wheel mounting surface.

I took some pics of what's on the car now. Thanks I want to get this right before ordering some rims from Billet specialties that look like the 50th anniversary wheels.

When you say you are rubbing, are you rubbing on the inside or outside? I am assuming the outside since you are so far out. You would need a more positive offset. I would assume like Jeff had said you are running the longer 96+ style. It may be cheaper to do a rock auto spindle / A arm than new wheels.
All wheels are marked on the backside of the wheel with the width and offset, normally on the back of the spoke. If you need help with this PM me.
